The purpose of this assignment is to:
A
Explore and develop your acting skills and review your own practise

Use your acting skills within rehearsal and performance

Scenario
This
unit is about starting your journey to becoming a professional actor. You
will be introduced to important acting skills and will learn about the
specific demands that acting makes on the body and mind. In particular, you
will undertake a programme of regular exercises to help you master the
techniques that will enable you to control and use your body and voice to communicate
a character or role from either the play Punk
Rock by Simon Stephens or The Witness by Vivienne Franzmann. As
well as these skills you will also need to use your imagination to create
characters.

Task 1 – Workshops
You will take part in warms up and skills sessions
at the beginning of your Thursday morning lessons. In these sessions you will
develop voice skills such as;

Task 2 –
Rehearse
You will be cast in a short scene from either Punk Rock or The Witness. You will have the opportunity to rehearse these
scenes in your Thursday afternoon lessons and these rehearsals will sometimes
be directed by your teacher and sometimes you will be expected to work on
your own and make decisions about the scene. We will expect you to employ the
techniques that you have acquired including;

character choices,
·
relationships with other characters
·
applying research findings to character,
·
taking direction
·
focus
We will
also expect you to have excellent time keeping and time management skills so
that you understand what it means to work
as part of a company.

Task 3 –
Performance
You will perform your scene alongside everyone
else in your group on ‘settling in’ evening which will take place on Thursday
the 17th of October. You will be graded on how well you use your
voice and body to communicate character, awareness of your audience and
space, focus, energy and commitment and your
interaction with other characters

Task 4 – Blog
You will receive guidance from your teacher about
your blog which you will complete over the course of this term. You will
include thoughts about the exercises you have done, how they have
helped you create your character and what decisions you have made in the
creation of your character. You will
email this in on the morning of your performance, on 17th October 2013.
